Daily routine of a CEO in the Adelaide Hills – how I structure my days
Here’s a snapshot of what my days look like as a real estate principal in the Adelaide Hills.
As a busy dad of two and CEO to a growing team, my time is my most valuable asset. Over the years, I’ve transitioned from days filled with listing appointments and client meetings to having more free space to problem solve and nurture partnerships.
This is the journey from technician to visionary, as I’ve covered before.
I’m taking it even further this year, as I stand firm in my goal to sell less and lead more. This takes a lot of mental preparation, as I’m used to being busy and have found validation in performance. But this just leads to overwork and existing in ‘business-as-usual’ for years, rather than truly leading.
Time block and know your non-negotiables
While every day as a CEO is different, two methods keep me moving forward. I time block and schedule my non-negotiables. I don’t wait until the end of the day to see if I have time to train or do deep work.
In the morning, I go to the gym, respond to messages from external team, and do the school run.
Depending on the day, I’m prioritising a deep work session, working on content, involved in important client meetings, and catching up with key partners or project teams.
I create space for steps and ‘thinking time’, which is critical for a CEO. It’s my responsibility to solve problems and be creative. I can’t do that with a bloated schedule. The best ideas and ah-ha moments happen outside of the office.
I close out the day by picking up the kids, grabbing any items at the supermarket, and cooking dinner. Some nights I play ball, but most of the time I’m hanging with the family.
Schedule your daily/weekly habits
Start now, because if you don’t, time will always get away from you.
